How To Start A Recovery Case

1. Please fill out the Data Recovery Work Order form.
Options are:
Please provide as much detail as possible on the work order. In particular, describe the circumstances of the failure and whatever remedies you may have already tried. Detail the exact spelling of directories, subdirectories or file names you wish recovered. The more information we have, the easier it will be to diagnose and successfully recover your data.
If you are dropping off your media at one of our locations, we suggest completing this form before your visit. This will give you the opportunity to think more clearly as times of data loss can be chaotic.

This Credit Card Authorization form is not needed to start a standard recovery but is for expedited or hybrid diagnostics and should reflect sales tax if applicable. First Advantage Data Recovery Services is committed to PII (Personal Identity Information) privacy. We will only use the information you share with us for the purposes of completing your recovery. This document will be destroyed after this recovery is completed.

2. Packaging – if you decided to ship your media.
Hard disk drives and other computer storage media can be critically damaged by static electricity, shock, and other factors, often resulting in additional damage. Use the following instructions for shipping and proper handling of your media.
  • Static - make sure your media is placed in anti-static bags before packing. If not available, simply wrap the media in aluminum foil.
  • Shock and Vibration - Shock and/or vibration can cause further damage to your media. To insure the media is protected at all times, package the media in a box with at least 2" of padding (i.e. foam, bubble wrap) on ALL 6 SIDES. Please do NOT pack with Styrofoam peanuts. Failures caused by shock and/or vibration account for one third of all HDD failures.
  • Laptops - If the hard drive is inside a laptop computer the drive needs to be removed before shipping.
  • Please remember to include the Work Order form in the same package as your media.
Note: We cannot begin the diagnostic of your media unless the form is signed.

3. Shipping.
We recommend shipping your drives via registered/certified mail or with a carrier that provides a tracking number. There is also a Shipping Label for your convenience (not required) to print and attach to your package.


4. Returned Data.
Your data will be returned to you on DVD or hard drive media. Hard drives will be furnished free of charge at the discretion of DRS.

Return shipping is free for all completed recoveries! This is FedEx priority overnight shipping anywhere in the continental US. This does not include international or Saturday deliveries or for declined or no-quoted projects.
